ABOUT VIZIANAGARAM: The imposing fort formed the nucleus around which grew the town of Vizianagaram. Depicting the past glory of the rulers, the quadrangular stone fort is evident of the knowledge and skillfulness of the builders and architects of those days. An ancient temple of Pydithalli Ammavaru is situated in this town. Legend has it that one of the daughters of the Pusapati royal family was the reincarnation of the pressing deity , Pydithallamma.

Ashta Medhagana Lakshmi Bhuvaneswari sahitha Gnana Saraswati temple is located at SVN Nagar, Vizianagaram. The temple complex comprises mini temples for each of the ashta medhagana deities with the sanctum Sanctorum consecrated with deities of Sri Lakshmi, Bhuvaneswari and Saraswathi Devis. DWADASA JYOTIRLINGA TEMPLE
Psupathinadeswara sahitha Dwadasa Jyotirlinga temple is one of its kind in the entire country. It is located in the serene locality of SVN Nagar in the heart of Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. The 12 representative Jyotirlingas of the original Puranik twelve Jyotirlingas, which are in different parts of our country, are in one temple, each with an individual Garbhagraha. As per the Shastras, the darshanam of even a single Jyotirlinga will lead to moksha. RAMATHIRTHAM :

Ramathirtham is famous for the 1000 years old Sri Rama Temple situated on the Bavikonda hill. The beautiful lake in its vicinity was constructed by the Pusapati kings during 1650-1696 A.D., the unique feature of the temple is that it was built entirely upon a huge rock. Nearby on a hill, known as Gurubukhtakonda are the remains of enormous Buddhist mahasthupa, which is 19 feet high and 65 feet in diameter, a monastery, chaitya, monastic cells, two votive stupas, a solid stone stupa, an enclosed courtyard and a pillared hall. In the vicinity are the ruins of a brick shrine with images of Jain Tirthankaras. Further up on the hill, under a massive hanging rock one can see several Jain sculptures.

GOVINDAPURAM : 

Govindapuram is situated in Pusapatirega Mandal at a distance of 30 Km from Vizianagaram Town. The magnificent temple here is renowned for its sculptural beauty and is based on the essence of the Bhagwat Gita. Gyana Ratham with Lord Krishna on the chariot is an impressive image that enthralls the visitors.

 

Amongst the modern temples in the district, the ‘Geeta Bhavan’ at Govindapuram deserves special mention.  It is a beautifully built monument in the form of Chariot, which attracts a large number of pilgrims.  It has a  spiritual prayer cum meditation hall where the people come to gain spiritual solace.  This village is nearer to Chintapalli sea shore, where light house was constructed by French.

JAMMI VRUKSHAM :

Legend has it that the Pandavas hid their weapons on a “Jammi Tree” before embarking on the final year of their exile (Agnathavasam). During their stay, King Dharmaraj and Kunthi installed the idols of Sri Thirupuranatha Swamy and Sri Janardhan Swamy, at this place. 500 years ago villagers found an idol of Sri Madhava Swamy and established it between the earlier two temples and named it Sri Venugopalaswamy Temple. The Jammi tree at the Tripurtantaka Swamy temple is considered to be holy for its miraculous properties. The temple is said to be thousands of years old. Folklore says that the local inhabitants tried to shift the temple but they could not uproot the Siva linga. Modern-day geologists estimate that the Shivalinga extends more than 179 feet deep into the earth.

KUMILI :

This small village is famous on account of a huge complex of temples built by local devotees over a period of 10 years. The temples are unique with extremely attractive sculptures, paintings on the walls and idols. The temples within the complex are Ganapathi, Shiva, Kalika Devi, Navagrahalu, Satyanarayana Swamy, Subramanyeswara Swamy, Seetharama Swamy, Anjaneya Swamy and Venu Gopalaswamy. Incidentally, the village was the former seat of the erstwhile Vizianagaram Kingdom and ruins of a mud fort still exist.

VEENA MANUFACTURING :

PUNYAGIRI :

One of the oldest Shiva temples is situated here. The sanctum has an underground water source which ensures that the Shivalinga is perpetually bathed with water. Considered to be a very holy spot, a large numbers of devotees flock here during the Mahasivaratri festival. Legend has it that one bathes in the waterfall nearby and then has Darshan of Lord Shiva, he attains Moksha.

ARAKU VALLEY :

Araku Valley, 85-km from Vizianagaram town is close to the Orissa State border. This place lures people with pleasant weather, hills and valleys. The natural beauty of this valley comes alive with its rich landscape. The area of the valley is roughly 36-km and the altitude is between 600 and 900m above sea level.

The journey to this place on the Ghat road with thick forests on either side is in itself interesting and pleasant. One can have a wonderful trekking trip. 46 tunnels and bridges will greet you on the way. The Ananthagiri hills on the way to Araku Valley are famous for coffee plantations. Borra Caves located 29 km from Araku Valley, are one of the famous nearby tourist attraction.

Tribes inhabit the entire area and there are around 19 tribes. Tribal people who abound with their own folklore and traditions enhance the beauty of this valley. Tribal lifestyle expresses itself in various artistic creations like folk costumes and art literally differing from tribe to tribe. Dhimsa dance is a unique feature of the tribes of Araku Valley.

BOBBILI :

The Bobbili fort is situated in this ancient town. It is associated with the historic battle between the Raja of Bobbili and Zamindar of Vizianagaram, who is aided by the French. The fierce war established this as a land of heroism, bravery and courage. The impressive Bobbili fort stands as a silent testimony to this hard-fought battle, who saw the Raja of Bobbili lay his life fighting rather than surrendering. The Venugopala Swamy temple here is quite famous as also the oldest in the district.
